Theme the Baby Shower.
Invitations can say:

My daughter is having a baby!
To celebrate the upcoming birth I am
hosting a….
“24 months and Growing” Baby Shower!

Okay when we wanted books instead of cards we wrote…”starting a library for baby shouldn’t be hard if you would bring a book instead of a card”. Cute, but to the point.
So I suggest a catchy little rhyme…
Give me a minute I will think about it…

Something like…
“we know their cute, we know their fun, but new born clothes we have a ton. When our little one turns 2, that is where were counting on you”
Just an idea, but the little rhymes seem to be the most effective.

No matter what you say or do, people will buy what the want for you. The best advice I can give you would be to register somewhere that you can easily return the items you dont want and to make sure you keep the receipts that you do get. You could also put on the invite, “If considering clothing, please purchase size 24mths and up! Thank you!”

I know the Walmarts around here (for example) will only let you return 3 items without a receipt within a 30 day period, because I registered there for my Bridal Shower.

i did this, i had so many small clothes that i was afraid one day my kid would jus RUN out of clothes! Lol just put in the invitation clothes 24m and up please =]

I would word it something like this. Because of the parents eager anticipation for the arrival of their new baby they have already stocked up on clothes up until 24 months. Please only get clothes size 24 months and up ( I would also put what season you need them to fit). Diapers, wipes and gift cards are also a huge help. Or something like that. I have learned with my wedding and own baby shower that if you don’t literally spell it out for people the whole thing will be a waste. Not being mean just saying. If it’s not something you need then it’s a waste of the people money in my opinion.

There’s no polite way to put that on there. Instead, it is ok to put where you registered, and there you can register for just the bigger clothes. And it’s ok to spread the word when people ask you or relatives. But it would be impolite to list exactly what you want on the invite.

It’s really tacky to specify gifts on an invitation. When people call you or your mom to confirm that they are coming or to ask what you want or need, then you can tell them. But don’t put it on the invitation.

unfortunetly, i have found that no matter what you ask/register for no one will get that for you. best thing i can tell you is to register somewhere that has an easy exchange/return policy and keep up with gift receipts

register yourself at a local store so everyone who’s coming will know what you need or want , everything you pick will be in a computer at that store and your problem will be solved!

Register somewhere for gifts that are only that size, and put where you registered on the invite.
