I threw a shower for my sister and one of the things that she really loved was “Baby’s First Library”. When you send out the invitations you include in them a lil note that tells the guests to bring their fav. childhood book for the baby. They can inscribe something on it if they want to. But it is a really great thing to do. Also You can do the dirty diaper game. You get some different kinds of mini candy bars and put them into different diapers, melt them a lil in the microwave and then everyone smells they and try to guess what kind each one is. Make sure you have a camera ready while they are doing this it is really very funny.

Get those invitations out now! Just do a few games, because you’ll have to buy some little prizes. More $$. There’s the toilet paper around the mommy’s belly game, two clothes pin games(contact me for details). I’d stick with cold cuts (buy the meats & cheese from your market deli and roll slices up and arrange your own deli platter) and side salads for food. You could set out hummus & pitas, or veggies & dip too.

I would get a ducky stamp and some card stock for the invites, and just use a lot of yellow and white for decorations (can stamp with the duckie if you want.) For my sister’s shower we did a 1st year theme, basically ppl got stuff she would need thruout the first year, not just newborn baby stuff. You can also do a diaper cake, basically a stack of diapers shaped like a cake. Use like baby socks, rattles and such as decorations on the cake (can find how to do it here ..)

the diaper game is a good idea(food in a diaper and ppl guess what it is), or the guessing game (take a bag and put some baby related stuff in it-a rattle, rubber ducky, etcetc) and let ppl feel in the bag for like 20 sec then write down what they think is in it, word scrabble (give them a list of words baby or pregnancy related-whoever unscrambles the most wins). Enjoy the party.
